Ontario invests in services and activities helping seniors stay active and socially connected.
Uxbridge — Today, MPP Bethlenfalvy and Hon. Raymond Cho, Minister of Seniors and Accessibility, announced that Uxbridge has received a Seniors Community Grant of $24,640. The funding will be used to support The Age Well Uxbridge: Mobility, Wellness, and Education Series, a no fee ‘play and learn’ type pass for a variety of classes and workshops. The program is designed to improve mobility, reduce fall risk, strengthen social connections, enhance access to the professional guidance and health resources, and support rural seniors in aging well and safely at home.
“Our government is investing up to $7,000,000 in programs that help seniors stay active, connected, and engaged in their communities,” said Peter Bethlenfalvy, Member of Provincial Parliament for Pickering‑Uxbridge. “This $24,600 investment for the Age Well Uxbridge initiative will provide local seniors with greater access to wellness programs, social opportunities, and resources that support healthy aging and independence, close to home.”
“Seniors are healthier, happier and more active when they have strong relationships, opportunities to get out, and new experiences to look forward to” says Mayor Dave Barton. “This funding will help create more opportunities for seniors in Uxbridge to connect with friends, meet new people, stay active, and enjoy everything our community has to offer. Thank you to Minister Cho and MPP Peter Bethlenfalvy for supporting our seniors and providing this funding. Without their help, programs and opportunities like these simply wouldn’t be possible.”
The Ontario government is investing up to $7 million for more than 320 Seniors Community Grants helping seniors and stay fit, active, healthy and socially connected, close to home and in their communities.
“The Seniors Community Grants Program is a great example of how our government is working for local communities,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “We are pleased to provide investments for so many services and activities that bring seniors together, learn new skills, get fit, and stay connected to their neighbours and friends.”
Up to $25,000 per project is invested in local services, activities and events to provide seniors with opportunities for greater social inclusion, volunteerism and community engagement. The Seniors Community Grants is a unique Ontario government grant designed to reduce social isolation, fight ageism and create positive connections.
