Ontario Approves Long-term Care Bed Allocation for Uxbridge
New home will bring 192 modern long-term care beds to the community.
UXBRIDGE —The long-term care beds at the Uxbridge Hospital Redevelopment Site have been approved. The long-term care home, which will be run by UniversalCare Canada, will have a total of 192 beds, 92 being new to Durham Region. Long-term care home projects have been fast-tracked with support from the Ontario government’s increased construction funding subsidy. This is part of the government’s commitment to build 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds across the province.
“I am pleased to announce that our government will be funding the addition of 192 long-term care beds, 92 of which are new to the region,” said Peter Bethlenfalvy, MPP for Pickering-Uxbridge. “The Early Works announced on January 24, 2025, will allow for the start of construction on the campus of care here in Uxbridge which will provide a seamless integrated approach to serve our aging seniors”.
The new space will provide much needed support for the community of Uxbridge and beyond with both LTC and post-acute beds. The campus of care model will feature a new hospital, a long-term care home, and an ambulatory care building.
Announced last week, the early works for the site has been approved to begin the needed work to lay the groundwork for future construction. Site work is set to begin once the construction contract is awarded and is scheduled to be completed prior to the main project commencing construction.
The government is fixing long-term care to ensure Ontario’s seniors get the quality of care and quality of life they need and deserve. The plan is built on four pillars: staffing and care; quality and enforcement; building modern, safe, and comfortable homes; and connecting seniors with faster, more convenient access to the services they need.
