Ontario’s Government For The People Taking Immediate Action to Protect Electricity Supply Rather Than Ontario Power Workers Strike.

Pickering-Uxbridge –Today, MPP Peter Bethlenfalvy returned to Queen’s Park for an emergency parliamentary sitting to address the uncertainty between Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and the Power Workers’ Union. This week, MPP Bethlenfalvy will be working with his caucus colleagues to introduce new legislation that will ensure that the residents of Pickering-Uxbridge have a reliable source of power this winter.

“During the winter months, it is critical that individuals and families in Pickering- Uxbridge and across Ontario have a power supply that is reliable,” stated MPP Bethlenfalvy. “Without decisive government action, residents could see rolling black outs over the holidays and into the winter months.”

OPG produces approximately 50 per cent of the electricity that Ontario families and businesses rely on every day. Any prolonged outage caused by job action would jeopardize the electricity supply and have a negative impact on the provincial economy.

“I want to assure the residents of Pickering-Uxbridge that our government is working around the clock to ensure that the people of Ontario have a safe and reliable power supply that will heat their homes and keep their lights on, added MPP Bethlenfalvy. I hope the NDP caucus will join us in passing legislation quickly.”
