Uxbridge MPP steps up on dog issue

UXBRIDGE — Pickering-Uxbridge MPP Peter Bethlenfalvy is lending his voice to the chorus calling for the province to relax health code rules around dogs in breweries.

The Second Wedge Brewing Co. brought the issue to the forefront this summer after an anonymous complaint to the Durham Region Health Department in July resulted in the withdrawal of their dog-friendly policy.

“Dog-friendly businesses provide a welcome stop while out for a walk, a healthy opportunity for dogs to socialize and a point of connection between dog owners, which develops community and a relaxed, happy atmosphere for all customers,” said Joanne Richter, co-owner of The Second Wedge. The brewery recently launched a petition calling on the provincial government to relax health code regulations to allow dogs in tasting rooms across Ontario.
